This tool merges PDFs inside your browser tab. Each file you add is read from your own disk, its first page is drawn as a thumbnail beside its page count, and pressing merge copies the pages into a new document with the pdf-lib library, which then downloads to your device. Nothing is uploaded, so there is no server quota: the tool sets no fixed cap on how many files you add, and the real ceiling is your device’s memory. Merging works on whole files — every page of the first PDF, then every page of the second, in the order of the numbered cards. Pages are copied as PDF objects rather than re-rendered, so text stays selectable, images keep their original data and each page keeps its own size and rotation. What does not carry over is document-level structure: bookmarks, the fillable-form definition, and the title and author fields, because the result is a new document assembled from pages. To use only some pages of a file, cut them out with Split PDF first.

What you can do

How to use merge pdf

  1. Click “Choose PDFs” or drop files on “Drop PDFs here”Select two or more PDF files; you can pick several in one go. Add more later with “Add PDFs” or the “Add more” tile.
  2. Set the order with ↑ and ↓, or by draggingThe number on each card is its position in the merged file. Drag a card onto another position, or use the ↑ and ↓ buttons; ✕ removes a file and “Clear” empties the list.
  3. Name the file in “Save as”The default is merged.pdf. Type any name; the .pdf extension is added automatically.
  4. Click “Merge N PDFs”The button shows the file and page count, for example “Merge 3 PDFs · 12 pages”. A progress bar advances file by file and the merged PDF downloads when it is done.

FAQ

Are my PDFs uploaded to a server?

No. Your browser reads the files from disk, pdf.js draws the thumbnails and pdf-lib builds the merged document, all inside the page. The result is created in memory and saved as a download, so no copy of your documents is sent anywhere.

How many PDFs can I merge, and how big can they be?

You need at least two. The tool sets no fixed maximum on file count or size; the limit is your device’s memory, because every file is read in full and the merged file is assembled in memory before it downloads. If a very large set fails on a phone, merge it in batches and then merge the results — a merged PDF can be added back like any other file.

Will bookmarks, links and form fields survive the merge?

Page content does: text, fonts, images, page size and rotation are copied unchanged, and web links on a page keep working. Bookmarks and the document’s form definition are not carried over, so fields may stop being fillable — fill them in before merging. Links that jump to another page inside a document may no longer land there, and the source title and author are not copied.

Can I merge password-protected PDFs?

Not as they are — this tool does not decrypt. A PDF that needs a password to open shows “unreadable” on its card, and a file that opens freely but has permission restrictions previews normally, yet in both cases the pages come out blank or garbled if you merge. Remove the protection first: the PDF editor on this site asks for the password, removes it on your device and saves an unlocked copy.

Can I reorder or rotate individual pages?

Not here. This tool orders whole files and copies every page of each one. To keep only some pages, extract them with Split PDF and merge the extract; to reorder, rotate or delete single pages, use “Organize pages” in the PDF editor.

What does “unreadable” on a file card mean?

The preview could not open that file, usually because it needs a password or is damaged. A damaged file stops the merge with “One of these PDFs could not be merged — it may be password-protected or corrupted.” Remove it with ✕ and merge the rest.

What will the merged file be called?

“merged.pdf” unless you change the “Save as” field. If the name you type already ends in .pdf, the extension is not doubled.
